Why I Don't Web 2.0/Social Bookmark Anymore
The whole web 2.0, social bookmarking thing seems to be the next “big thing” in search engine optimization. I used to do it and well, I don’t do it anymore. I wanted to take the time to share an SEO philosophy lesson with you.
Easy For You - Easy For Spammers You can put an article up on Weebly that targets a long tail keyword, you social bookmark the page and within 24hrs you’ll be in the top 10 at Google. Granted, you’ll probably jump around a bit after that, but you’ll probably stay in the top 10. Doesn’t that sound a little too easy? If it is that easy, than spammers can do it too. What is Google’s Interests? No one can really tell you what is good SEO and bad SEO, so all you can really do is look at Google and think of how it does business. Is it in Google’s Interest to have sites that can easily rank in the top 10, even if they’re spammy gibberish garbage? Let me ask it differently. Is it in Google’s Interest to protect the results of searches to ensure the highest quality rank? My Conclusion Web 2.0 with social bookmarking is polluting the results at Google. It’s not in their interest to leave things like they are. Web 2.0 hasn’t disappeared because one site gets slapped and another one becomes the next dominant thing. One of these days Google is going to do a bitch slap to abusers. What I don’t like about the whole thing is that you’re not building any authority with the search engines. You’re just pigging backing off the momentum of a site that will be bitch slapped in a few months. Also, I hear some people say that they’re great for backlinks. Are you shitting me? Since when did free websites become “good” backlinks? All I have to say is that the bitch slapping is coming and you should BEWARE! September 16 2008
