Very Low Competition, Low Searches
Join me on my next big experiment. Mine are always fun and you should enjoy them. Not to mention, you’re going to make a lot of online real estate in the process. This is a long term experiment, so if you’re someone that needs instant gratification; piss off.
Before I start rambling on about competition, I might as well explain how you figure it out. If you’re looking for the competition of a long tail keyword, you just search it in Google with quotations around it. The number of results equal the competition. This is the way I see it. There are a lot of low competition (under 30,000) with 100+ unique searches a day. Even though you can rank well for them, people are always battling for them. Since it is so competitive, you get bumped out easy and it’s just not consistent. There are a lot of very low competition (under 1000) keywords that get anywhere from 1-10 unique searches a day. Most people don’t go after these because they only supply, at most, a few hits a day. Well, that’s what we’re going to do. I’m going after very low competition keywords because they’re easier to dominate. But I’m also going to go after a lot. It seems easier to make 10 pages for 10 long tail keywords that get 10 searches a day, than it would be for battling for a keyword getting 100 searches a day. Since they’re very low competition keywords, we’re not going to have to go “uber”-SEO on our tiny sales pages because they’ll rank well without it. Our goal is just to pump out simple, generic sales pages that target very low competition (under 1000) keywords that get anywhere from 1-10 hits a day. * Yes, I do know we could easily dominate these with one simple article at EzineArticles, but that isn’t what I want to do. You can make a sales page and a targeted article for EA because you’ll get a lot more traffic. You have to remember that the traffic that filters into EA will die off naturally, others will hit their Adsense and you may get 1-3 hits a day.
