The 48 Hour Product Challenge

The 48 hour product challenge is a term I just came up with. I decided to see if I could create a fully finished Clickbank product, with a sales page, in a period of 48 hours.

The whole point of doing this was to break mental barriers. If you look at the 100 meter dash, there was a time when people believed that getting under 10 seconds was impossible. It remained that way for years. Suddenly, someone ended up breaking it under 10 seconds. Shortly after that point, a lot of other people started to break it.

The point is that most people hold themselves back because they don’t believe it’s possible. What I wanted to illustrate is that it doesn’t take a lot of actual time to create a product. So I’m going to breakdown what I did.

Required Supplies

  • Web Hosting
  • A Domain Purchase Within 24hrs of starting
  • A Product Idea
  • A Burning Fire of Determination
  • Energy Drinks and Other Caffeine Fixes

End Goal

  • ~ 50 Page eBook
  • One Compelling Sales Letter

Starting

Starting will be the hardest part of this whole thing. The best place to start is with broad research of the subject. You basically want to have a good overview of what the product will talk about. All you want to do is come up with a rough outline or rough table of contents.

Don’t worry about missing things. You can always add in other sections that you never thought of. Don’t worry about the order. You can always put it in order later. It takes under 5 minutes to do.

Writing

That hardest part of writing is starting. Introductions waste so much time for people. I have an extremely hard time with it. Here’s my advice; just start writing. Grab a topic off the outline and start writing it.

A lot of people feel that they have to do things in the order the book will appear and you really don’t. Just start writing sections. You can always put them in order afterwards and if you’re like me, you’ll write the introduction last.

Sales Letter

I can’t really give you much information on this topic because people have compiled books and books on this subject and I can’t cover them all. I think one of the rules that really hit me was focusing on benefit, rather than feature.

At first I had a hard time differentiating between feature and benefit. I knew the difference between obvious examples, but some are more vague. I found a really good exercise to figure out benefits. What you do is list the features and ask “so what?” to each of them, from the customers perspective.

A feature is that it is a PDF ebook. From the customers perspective, so what would answer: Instant download, works on pc and mac, etc.

Let’s say your book has the feature of information on your metabolism. The benefit would be burn more calories without doing anything.

Things like that.

Proof Reading, Editing, Housekeeping

At this point you’re pretty much done of everything. You just have to go back through your eBook and make sure it is up to standards. You might want to add in a certain type of formating, maybe some pictures.

Same thing applies to your sales page. You might want to make it look more structured, maybe add in a graphics header and an eBook graphic.

Lastly, you might want to get some testimonials. Bug your friends to read a copy of it and tell them to email you reply.

My Results

I was pretty surprised at how well this went for the most part. A big weight comes off my shoulder when I actually finish the eBook. The sales letter is the hard part for me because I really don’t know what makes a good sales letter. It’s all new to me.

August 31st @ 9PM - Start Date and time.
September 1st @ 7PM - Domain Name Purchase
September 2nd @ 3AM - eBook Completion
September 2nd @ 9PM - Sales Page Completion

I wouldn’t call my product 100% done though. More like 99%. I think there is a little tweaking to do, which shouldn’t be that big of a deal because it takes like 5 business days for Clickbank to approve a product. I thought about listing the product in this post, but I thought I’d wait until it’s approved before I do that.

Well, I hope that knocks down any barriers you have. I think you should really give it a try because it is nice to have a fully finished product in two days flat.
