How to Change Sniper Sites into Authority Sites

Something that I'm attempting to do right now is change some of my sniper sites into authority sites after I learned a few things about them this month. If you don't know what sniper sites are just look at my post on the subject. But the project has been successful completely the way that I made my objectives.

Objective: Buy keyword domains for keywords that receive roughly 3000 searches a month. Target that keyword completely and get it to rank in the money spots of Google (top 3).

This objective is successful as in you can make money with it, but it happens to be short sighted because if I could start again with this project I would probably do it differently. I'm not saying it is bad or anything like that. If you want to know how to make cash online then definitely take a look at the post and give it a try.

What I'm trying to say is that if I could start it all over again I would recalibrate the objective and the way I took on these sniper sites (or mini-sites). And it really comes down to your ability to convert a sniper site into something that would make an excellent authority site.

Calibrated Objective: Buy keyword domains for keywords that receive roughly 3000 searches a month. Target that keyword and other keywords in the niche that get between 500-3000 searches a month and get them to rank in the money spot at Google.

Obviously that is just a bigger objective, but I've found it is actually more important for later creating an authority site.

What I've learned is that the sniper sites that have a much more diverse range of search term traffic coming in actually are easier to work with, pass authority onto new pages better and are getting pretty close to the front page for the niche itself. This month I've been spending time working on my sniper sites that are doing good and seeing if I can make them better. And this is what I've figured out from it.

I have sites that rank first position for their keyword and it takes 10 days for a new page to index (I'm using static HTML). And that's even with submitting an article immediately writing the content to point to the page. I think I can illustrate it quite well with some screen shots of AWSTATS and you'll get what I mean.

These are the two sites that have shown the most potential and you can see that they have a pretty wide range of keyword traffic coming in. The top keyword isn't taking up a significant portion. These sites are both very close to their niche keyword. One just popped into position 20 (in quotes) for a 75,000 searches/month keyword [EXACT]. The other one is around position 30 (in quotes, like 32 without) for a 90,000 searches/month keyword [EXACT]. This is a big deal to point out that having pages that focus on some other keywords in the niche that actually get traffic really does help.

I built other pages on the other sniper sites, but the pages didn't focus on any decent keywords (for the most part) and I don't have that diverse range. This sort of shows that why they're not indexing fast nor indexing in good positions for other keywords. Take a look at this sniper site that ranks for its main keyword.

As you can see most of the traffic comes to the top keyword and then the rest get a little bit. I can only speculate what this all means. If Google gives you a good ranking for something, it trusts you. I like to think in trust btw. So if it only trusts you for one page, then you don't have any real authority. When you have a 5 or 6 pages on your site that all have trust, you have more authority. And obviously as you add to that, the better.

I know this might not sound like a big revelation, but I think the point is that you have to spend time getting other keywords to rank, even if they're minor compared to the main objective. I met my objective and I worked hard to get that main keyword. And it is an excellent way to make cash, because it is paying off. But another authority site is just another beast with even more money potential.

So that's basically the point I wanted to get across to you. Just make sure you don't throw up pages for the sake of filling up a site. Pick some extra keywords, target them, rank for them, internally link back to your main page and keep plugging away at it.

SIDE NOTE: I want to point out that the two sites that are showing "authority characteristics" are an exactkeyword.net and a keywordshop.com (basically an extra word cause the domain for the keyword wasn't available).
