Internet Marketing - When the Powers Out
With Hurricane Hannah coming up the east coast, I’ll probably experience a power outage. By the time it makes it here, it will be a tropical depression or a post-tropical depression. There’s nothing to worry about. I’m safe. I’m pretty sure the power will go out.
It always goes out at the most inappropriate times; right in the middle of work. Typically the weather is crap outside when the power goes up, so you’re inside working up a storm of productivity. Then the computer just turns off. Than you’re sitting there wondering what the hell you’re supposed to do with yourself. You can’t watch a movie, or television. You’re addicted to things that plug into the wall. How Can I Do Work When The Power Is Out? Well, lately I have been working on the copywriting for two products that I have going right now. This process isn’t quite as… linear as writing an article. It requires a lot more thought and creativity on your part. I’ve found myself printing off other peoples sales letters and going through them. 1. Study Sales Letters and Learn to Sell Have some of these sales letters printed off already. I’m currently out of paper and I’ve been printing stuff out on the back of other paper. Actually have some of these sales letters on hand for you to look at during these down times. Learn the flow and how they work. Notice how they display things and try to get in the head of a buyer. Do you feel reassured by the sales letter? Does it make you want to buy? 2. The Notebook That’s right, I have a notebook. I know a lot of people, for some odd reason, feel that since they work on a computer that they should store all notes and information on it. I don’t hold that philosophy. I write down a lot of things in notebooks and on pads of paper. I think you sometimes need to get away from the computer to do some of the work and it’s nice to take some notes to another room to think. When the power goes out, I can grab my notebook and go through a lot of things. I have pages of ideas. I have researched keywords written down. Product name ideas. Headlines. Etc. This gives me the perfect opportunity explore those ideas and see what I could make. I can do a lot things really. 3. Reading (An Actual Book) I think we should all be reading some sort of book that is going to benefit us financially in someway. It could be as simple as a marketing book. It could simply be a topic on a ebook you’re planning on creating. You don’t have to do all your research for a specific product online. You can go to the library and get a book. You’ll probably get much more detailed information and probably be able to market yourself as a better expert than your competitors. 4. Brainstorming I’m not a fan of “forced” brainstorming. I’ve found it to be pretty difficult to force yourself to think of “great ideas”. But I guess you’ll have tons of time on your hand, so it wouldn’t hurt. I think it’s best to focus on the problems in your life. What is the problem and how could you fix it? This will get you into a problem solving mood, which might generate an idea or two. 5. Understanding Potential Customers This is a big part of selling to people. People want to identify with you. All those infomercials you see on television always give the person a view that the creator has been there and has struggled, but they persevered. A lot of the solutions we market aren’t really needed by us, but we still need identify with potential customers. With all this free time, use your mind and try to grow some empathetic feelings.
