Getting Started With Clickbank Part 1

Sometimes I’m almost blinded by the fact that most people don’t know how to get started. It’s just second nature to me, so I thought I’d explain how to get started from nothing to something.

Step 1: Sign up at Clickbank.com (Affiliate Link).

Step 2: Find a suitable product to sell. You’re going to need to goto what is called the Clickbank Marketplace. This is where all the products that you can sell are listed.

You can go in there and do a search for something you’re looking for. When you’re starting out, I suggest you try selling something you know a lot about.

Under each product listed you’ll see information, that should help you in picking the product you want to sell.

$/Sale: This is how much you make per sale.
Future $: Recurring pay (Typical membership sites).
Total $/sale: How much you make per sale. It’s the $/sale and the average recurring pay.
%/Sale: This is the percentage of what you make of the total cost of product.
%Refd: This is the percentage of sales that are referred by affiliates.
Grav (or Gravity): How well it is selling. The higher the number, the better it is selling.

When choosing a product, I think there is a few points to take into consideration. The first point is the pay. I think you should choose something that at least gives you a nice commission. $40-100 is a very satisfying commission. I’d say, starting out, anything above $20 is probably up your alley.

The second thing is the gravity. The higher it is, the more it is selling, but it’s probably competitive as hell. That doesn’t mean you can’t make money with it though. The gravity under 10, is selling bad and I wouldn’t touch them. I’d stick with gravity above 10.

Lastly, I think looking at the referred by affiliate percentage. This isn’t quite as important, but it paints a picture of the sales. If the percentage is low, that means there aren’t many sales from affiliates. That could be a warning to you.

After you select the product you want, you just click the "create hoplink" link and a pop up window will come up. Just put in your Clickbank Username in and hit create. You’ll get a link. Save that to notepad, so you don’t lose it.

Step 3: Your Own Website. There is a few ways of doing this. You can go ahead and get your own domain name and web hosting or you can go the free root in the meantime. A lot of people go the free root starting out because they really don’t believe they can make money.

If you’re looking to go for paid root, here are some places to get a domain(.com’s):

1and1.com: $6.99
Godaddy.com: $9.99
Yahoo: $9.95

I use 1and1.com for a few reasons. The first is that it is the cheapest. The second is you get free private registration. When you buy a domain name, your name, address and phone number are freely available on the internet. You can get a proxy service that hides them. With 1and1.com, it is free. Godaddy and Yahoo, you have to pay for it at an additional cost.

Order from 1and1.com with my affiliate link.

If you get a domain name, you’re going to need hosting as well. For simplicity sake, you should just get hosting through 1and1.com (affiliate link). I haven’t personally used their hosting service, I’m just recommending it because it is the easiest path to take. If you get your own hosting independently, you’re going to have to transfer DNS servers and that maybe too complicated for you. If you know how, by all means find your own host.

The free way is finding yourself a place you can write to put your content up. Here are a few places you can use:

Blogger.com: This is Google’s free blogging service.
Wordpress.com: Wordpress’ free blogging service.
Squidoo.com: Free one page "lenses".

All three are suitable to use and can be setup in around a minute.
