Cuil.com - Defectors of Google
Well, I just heard about this new search engine called Cuil.com. It’s pronounced cool, by the way. Some people are calling this the "Google Killer", which is a term I don’t like. Google has nothing to worry about. The reason I bring it up is because this isn’t some side project of a nerd on Digitalpoint, but it is made by ex-employees of Google.
They claim they can index more pages faster than Google. They currently have 121,617,892,992 indexed pages. They are going after a different market than Google, so they’re definitely not a "Google Killer". Google stores information. It wants as much of it as it can, and with good reason; it makes them a better business. Cuil is going after the privacy conscious web surfers. They don’t store any information, so you don’t have to worry about that. I guess that’s their big difference. You’ll also notice that they have a different structure for listing search results. Anyway, I thought I’d bring it up because it is new, but I think it might be something that starts getting some traffic. Of course, not as much as Google, but traffic is traffic. July 30 3008
